Tips for Incorporating Marble into a Small Space

At the heart of the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2023 Doha stands a material as ancient as the desert itself: Rammed Earth. Engineered and handcrafted by Conmarble, the pavilion’s walls were more than just a design choice — they were a statement of sustainable legacy. The project went on to win the Gold Award for Best Self-Built Pavilion, underscoring the power of architecture rooted in place, tradition, and ecology.

As part of the UAE’s vision for regenerative design, the walls were built entirely using locally sourced soils, minimizing carbon emissions while maximizing aesthetic integrity. The layered texture, expressive tones, and natural strength of the rammed earth became the signature feature of the structure — blurring the lines between art, environment, and innovation.

“Rammed Earth is not just a building material; it’s a cultural expression of sustainability,” says Ahmad O.R. Abdel Majeed, CEO and Founder of Conmarble. “This project was an opportunity to remind the world that our region can lead in both tradition and modern ecological design.”

Conmarble’s rammed earth  are a core part of its wider commitment to eco-luxury surfaces that merge handcraft with high performance. The Expo pavilion is one of over 60 major regional projects completed by the company, whose portfolio includes work in NEOM, the Red Sea, Katara Hills, and the Islamic Arts Biennale.

This collaboration between Conmarble and the UAE Pavilion design team is a testament to what can be achieved when material intelligence meets visionary architecture — and proves that the Earth itself can be the medium of modern design.
